Raise awareness of Human Trafficking and Modern Slavery
Matthew Scott, Kent Police Crime Commissioner
Matthew Scott was elected Kent’s Police and Crime Commissioner in May 2016. His role is to set policing priorities for the county by consulting with the public and putting together a Police and Crime Plan. He then holds the Chief Constable of Kent Police to account for the delivery of that plan. The PCC also sets the council tax precept for policing, is responsible for the overall policing budget, and funds projects which support victims of crime and promote community safety.
Since Mr Scott’s election, the size of the Kent Police force has grown by 270 police officers and there are plans for this number to increase by a further 180 in 2019/20.
Nationally, Mr Scott serves as the Association of Police and Crime Commissioners (APCC) portfolio holder for Performance, and is the national portfolio holder for Mental Health. Mr Scott also serves as one of three APCC spokespeople on Brexit.

Neil has been working with STOP THE TRAFFIK since 2008 and is currently Director of the Centre for Intelligence-Led Prevention (CfILP). His knowledge of organised crime and human trafficking is extensive.
STOP THE TRAFFIK focuses on prevention of Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking through focused campaigns in trafficking hot spots.

In the UK, Cheryl set up the anti-slavery group STOP THE TRAFFIK KENT in February last year, as an outreach ministry of SMB Church.
This group has grown from strength to strength and is now one of the largest and most active STOP THE TRAFFIK groups in the UK, with over 30 people volunteering their time and energy to help combat Modern Slavery and to support survivors in their local communities.

Unseen is a multi-award-winning charity working to eradicate modern slavery wherever it is found. Bringing safety, hope and choice to the survivors of human trafficking and modern slavery.

Lys Ford, Retired Police Officer
Lys is a retired police officer, her service has been as a detective within Major and serious crime squads and Murder Squads.
She joined the Gangmasters Licensing Authority 9 years ago and is currently the Partnership Development Manager for the Gangmasters Labour Abuse Authority. She has written and delivers training for the GLAA Academy in partnership with Derby University "Investigating Modern Slavery course".
She has created the training for the Clewer Initiative which has been rolled out across the UK. Lys works on collaborative initiatives with the private sector to provide guidance and training in relation to trafficking and forced labour. Lys facilitates and delivers MS training for the FCO in Malta and training at the ILO (international Labour organisation) in Turin on Forced labour and Human trafficking and Fair Recruitment each year.
